Hey folks! My name is Katie and welcome to my blog about my
Peace Corps experience.
I’m a Chicago Cubs enthusiast, former soccer player, current
runner, nature lover, and an aficionado of getting myself into pretty bizarre situations
(which also happen to make for plenty of interesting life stories). I love
traveling but it’s my love for people and hearing their stories that truly fills
my soul- traveling just happens to be one of my favorite avenues for meeting
new people.
I just graduated this spring (2018) from Spring
Arbor University, a small Christian school in Michigan, with a Biblical Studies
major and a Sociology minor. I played soccer all four years of my college career where my team won two NAIA National Championships. I had such a great college experience! I grew up in a small town in Indiana where both of my parents were public education teachers. September
2018 I will be starting my Peace Corps service in Madagascar as a Secondary
Education English Teacher and I can't wait!
I came into college planning on going straight to seminary
after my four years but sometime during my junior year I just knew in my heart
there was something else in store for me, I just didn’t know what quite then
and so I abandoned my search for seminaries and jumped into the unknown.
The Peace Corps is something that I had thought off and on
about whenever I started to fantasize about traveling but never really gave it
much thought until my spring semester of my junior year when I found out the
couple leading my cross cultural to Zambia had been Peace Corps Volunteers. I
still wasn’t sure if this was a liable option for me after college but I was
excited to learn more about their experience. Once I got to Zambia there was
almost an immediate connection. I fell in love with so many aspects of the
culture and as cliché as it sounds, I most definitely left a piece of my heart
in Africa. However that piece was filled with so much love from so many
beautiful souls and amazing memories that I have cherished since my time there. It was this experience that lead me to decide that I wanted to spend a longer period of time in another culture and so the fall of my senior year I decided to apply for the Peace Corps. I look forward to sharing this new journey with all of you!
